The end
Got home today after a much more than memorable expedition. It was fabulous! Glad to be home but also sad to see the adventure end. The last leg with my dear friend, John Hoard, was a fast 8 days and we covered a lot of ground (water). We went to Drummond but moved on to DeTour for the night. Next, we cruised through Les Cheneaux Islands. After that, we looked around north of the St. Martin Islands before looping under Big Mac and by Mac Island. Many memories but had an especially fun time in the little town of Hessel at the Islander Bar listening to the band "Beach Chickens". St. Ignace was our stopping place and the boat is being "put to bed" for the winter. If I can upload some videos here at home faster than I could on the boat, I will share some during the next few weeks.

Les Cheneaux Islands
We went from Meldrum to Drummond Is, then to Detour and then here in the BIG wind. Tired. Big storm last night at anchor and dragged in the lousy bottom of mud and weeds. No fun reanchoring at 2AM then watching the GPS every 10 minutes the rest of the night to be sure we did not drag again. Cleared today but the wind was so strong that we were hardly making forward progress in the narrow channels of Les Cheneauxs. Some extraordinary cottages and homes here.

Spanish-Beardrop(dead) Harbour-Bayfield Sound-Meldrum
We went through the crew change in Spanish, exchanging John Hoard for John Donaldson. JD was not wanting to leave and I can't blame him. We had a fantastic time together. Hoard and I have already logged a lot of miles and seen super stuff. Tomorrow, back in the USA (Bruce).Drummond Island. This spectacular trip is coming to a close. Boohoo.

Rat Hole Portage
An unexpected stop, after doing an perfect wing and wing (one sail on each side of the boat like an airplane) all the way down Frazer Bay. It was 15-20 miles from Killarney, but from this little bay, we followed the Rat Hole Portage trail (rubber mats) for kayaks and canoes and got to Portage Cove in about (up here it is pronounced aboat) 1/4 mi. From there, Killarney was aboat 2 mi across the bay, eh? The next morning, it was flat, mirror calm as we cruised along in the morning sun to Little Current and on to Amendroz Island to anchor. Another day with only a swim suit all day. Weather fabulous, despite the forecast. Besides running when I get a chance, I have only worn shoes to go in somewhere, which almost never. I never were shoes on the boat.
Benjamin Islands
The Benjamins were all they were supposed to be. Probably the most famous anchorage (set of islands) in The North Channel. Superb weather, water as clear as air (76 degrees), deserty red, smooth boulders and even hills of smooth rock, and a spectacular, but mostly distant, thunderstorm just to make it even more interesting! Met some interesting people near us who were veteran sailors and joined them on Sunset Rock for, obviously, the windswept sunset. John slept on deck as we had next to no mosquitoes. Surprise. We are in Spanish waiting for John Hoard and a crew change. JD does not want to go home. Remember to click on the photos to enlarge. They are better if they are bigger.
